Each year the Council recognizes outstanding efforts by the media and individuals with disabilities or people who support people with disabilities. This section of our web site describes each annual award or contest sponsored by the Council.
Annual Media Contest
Media Awards are for outstanding coverage of people with developmental disabilities. [More information on Media Awards including a nomination form].

Vic Contrucci Award
This award recognizes an individual who demonstrates a steadfast commitment to children with developmental disabilities in Wisconsin in the name of Victor J. Contrucci. [More information on the Vic Contrucci Award including a nomination form].
The 2007 Contrucci Awardee was Roberta Sample.
Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award
The Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates an unwavering commitment to adults with developmental disabilities in Wisconsin. [More information on the Jayn Wittenmyer Distinguished Achievement Award including a nomination form].
The 2007 Awardee was Dorothy Will.
Self-Advocate of the Year Award
The Self-Advocate of the Year Award will be presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated characteristics such as high standards, creativity, child or adult advocacy, tenacity of purpose, leadership, integrity of effort, and courage in the face of adversity. The 2007 Self-Advocate of the Year Award went to Thomas Gierke.
