Self-Advocate of the Year Award
This is the sixth year the Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities is presenting the Self-Advocate of the Year Award.
The Council helps people with disabilities to gain knowledge and develop skills needed to become more effective advocates for themselves and others. The recipient of the Self-Advocate award is someone who has been instrumental in creating, leading or implementing disability advocacy activities in their community or on the state or federal levels.
Examples of Advocacy activities used by the award recipient may include:
- Visited or contacted local, county, State or Federal Policymakers
- Invited Legislators to their home or community
- Attended or organized local, regional or state rallies
- Prepared and/or presented Legislative testimony
- Promoted the WCDD’s Legislative agenda
The award recipient has worked on disability issues in one or more of the following areas:
- Employment
- Housing
- Inclusion
- Institutions/Money follows the Person
- Direct Service Workforce
- Waiting Lists
- Health Care
- Assistive Technology
- Voting
- Respite Care
