News 'n Notes from Dec. 6, 2005
WCDD is pleased to announce our new e-newsletter News 'n Notes. Please sign up for New 'n Notes to keep up-to-date with current information about WCDD activities.
1.) State Plan Survey Complete - Thank You
WCDD's online survey for comments on the direction of our new state plan is now over. Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with us at our World Cafés or offered their thoughts online. As always, if you have comments or ideas on how we may better serve our mission, please send them to the WCDD office via email or at the address below.
2.) Newsletter Formatting
If you have trouble viewing "News 'n Notes" please let us know! You may also want to see the online version on the wcdd.org website. In the future, we may send multi-part emails with one being the current HTML version and the other being text only. If you have been included on this mailing list in error and do not want to receive this e-newsletter in the future, please contact the WCDD office to remove yourself from this list.
3.) Youth/Education Position
WCDD is looking for a person to coordinate all our youth- and education-related projects. This includes Peer Power (the state-wide transition project), Project Teen (mini grants for school inclusion), and Building Connections (advocacy in the schools). Since the Council's focus may shift in the new State Plan, this position will be an LTE (limited-term) for one year. The job will average 20 hours/week, but the person will have to work a flexible schedule and do some traveling. If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone who might be, contact the Council office for application information.
4.) DHFS Supports Peer Power
The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) has just granted WCDD an additional $50,000 to support the continuation of our current Peer Power projects through 2005. Jessica Kleist from CIL-WW, Courtney Salzer from FACETS, and Jennifer Ondrejka from WCDD met with DHFS representatives to review the projects. We were invited to submit a proposal for 2006. The focus of the proposal will change from continuing the service to developing a model and materials so other school districts can develop their own Peer Power program.
5.) Long-Term Care Reform
The Department of Health and Family Services has sent out a Request for Information/Request for Proposals to reform the long-term care system. The Request was sent to the Council's Governmental Affairs Committee. Representatives from the Division of Disability and Elder Services presented information on the Request at both the Governmental Affairs meeting and the full Council meeting on November 17th. The entire Request can be read at: http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/ltcare/rfi. The Council has decided to respond to the Request.
6.) Council meeting
The WCDD will be holding their first meeting of 2006 on January 26, 2006 at the Council offices. The Council's Standing and Ad Hoc Committees will be meeting on Wednesday, January 25, 2005. [All 2006 meeting info]
