State Plan Now on the Web

The Council's current 2007 - 2011 State Plan is now posted to the WCDD web site. This section of the web site will be updated throughout the course of the Plan. We will be adding resources, events, progress updates and answers to your questions. You will also notice that the Plan is constructed in "layers". The first layer on the Plan's home page gives very brief background information. If you want more information on a section of the Plan, just go to the "More" button and greater detail will be given. Let us know what you think about the design of this part of our web site.

SDS Informational Meetings

The Council has created the Self-Determination Project under the new State Plan. This project will work to promote the use of Self-Directed Supports (SDS), which is a part of Family Care as it expands throughout the state. In SDS, people have control of their lives and choose their services.

To help the public better understand SDS, the project will hold a series of informational meetings and trainings. These meetings are for people who receive long-term care services, their families, service providers, and advocates. For more information on dates and places where they will be held and a registration form.

Grassroots Grants Awarded

The latest annual round of DAWN grassroots grants was just completed. 25 grant applications were submitted. 20 were approved by a panel of readers to receive funding for this year. Almost every part of the state was represented by the grants, from Fennimore to Ashland, from Milwaukee to New Richmond. Individuals receiving grants are working on issues ranging from disability parking enforcement to developing parent advisory groups within a school district. .

Applications for the next round of grassroots grants will be available in November of 2007. However, applications for smaller action grants are available throughout the year. For more information about the either of these grants call John Shaw at 608-266-7707.

Legislative Training

Executive Director, Jennifer Ondrejka and Council Chair, Mari Frederick, presented a training symposium for state legislators on January 31, 2007. The symposium was a comprehensive review of the DD system including Birth to 3, Family Support, Medicaid, waiver programs, and Family Care. About 30 people attended and we received many positive comments. Some legislators who couldn't be there asked for us to review the materials with them later. To view the slide presentation that was used, go to: <http://wcdd.org/whoweare/2007_events/LegPPT.ppt>. You will need MS Powerpoint software (either PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer) to view this file.
